On September 27, two Cornell Levinson China and Asia-Pacific Studies (CAPS) program Washington DC semester students, Feifei Hung and Jacqueline Cheng, joined the Chinese Embassy for the first in-person National Day reception after the pandemic to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Over 500 Chinese and American guests attended the reception, including US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink, White House National Security Council Senior Director for China Affairs Sarah Beran, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kin Moy.
President of the US-China Business Council, Craig Allen, and President of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, Stephen Orlins, both delivered remarks, calling on the two countries to continue working together to improve U.S.-China relations.
Feifei and Jacqueline had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with Ambassador Xie Feng, Minister Xu Xueyuan (the second-ranking diplomat at the embassy), and Minister Jing Quan (the third-ranking diplomat at the embassy), expressing their strong interest in US-China relations and the hope for a better and more constructive bilateral relationship.
